The high schooler who made $300K trading penny stocks under his desk
ReplyDeleteIt was just a few weeks into the new school year when Connor Bruggemann decided to play sick. He holed up in his bedroom, shut the door, and opened his laptop. Over the summer his father had opened an Etrade account for him, using around $10,000 Bruggemann had saved up over two years working as a busboy and waiter at a local BBQ joint. At first Bruggemann had used that cash to buy some big, well-known stocks: Apple, Verizon, and a few others. But today was different. One by one he liquidated those positions and put almost everything he had into American Community Development Group Inc, ticker sign ACYD, a penny stock selling for $.003 a share.
Over the next year Bruggemann would turn that $10,000 into more than $300,000, principally trading penny stocks, a practice rife with risk, fraud, and wild swings of fortune. He took off school that day, but for most of the time when Bruggemann was trading, he was also a 16-year-old high school junior in Wyckoff, New Jersey. With his iPhone in hand, Bruggemann would buy and sell six figures of stock from his lunch table, the bathroom, and, occasionally, on the sly while sitting at his desk.
Kudos for this kid risking it for the biscuit. That is awesome for someone that age to have that kind of money, and he achieved it himself. Hopefully he isn't stubborn and puts all the money on the line again, but actually saves it.
Its really cool that the was able to think of and succeed with the simple plan of penny stocks. He must have had a lot of faith to invest that much money into something he believed in. If everyone had that much motivation and faith, they would be able to accomplish anything.
DeleteThings like this makes you wonder how smart kids can really be. This kid definitely knows his money and he deserves all of it. Its amazing how he got most of his money all by himself. I agree with Chris because it would be a shame if he wasted all that money. He should use the money for college or something. He has what most kids need at his age, which is motivation. He put his mind to something and he succeeded.
DeleteI find it interesting that he could turn these penny stocks into $300K. I could never have the confidence to do this but because he took these risks, he made so much more. Just to think he is a high school student, around the age of myself, and put all of he had on the line to try and make this money. And I agree with you when you say he should save it because if he puts it all on the line again, he could also loose it all. He has come this far to creating a lot of money off of simple penny stock plans so if he were smart he would keep what he has.
Delete
DeleteI think it’s amazing what some people can do with basically little to nothing. Its pretty fantastic and lucky that Connor B would turn just penny’s into 300k. He was very brave with the outcomes that could have happened. He could have lost it all over a matter of minuets or even seconds. However, I truly admire Connor b’s confidence in himself, his choices, as well as stock and actions.
I think it's really cool that a kid can make so much money at such a young age. Even though it took him a long time, it was definitely worth it in the end. He went from 10 thousand to 300 thousand just with his penny stocks idea. What he did here is going to affect his life in a great way, and hopefully it will affect other kids to teach them to take risks in your life.
DeleteIt’s crazy that a kid was able to make 300x’s what he had originally. He was brave to put all that money at the start on the line. And, your right that if he is not stubborn he would not put all that money back onto penny stocks.
DeleteWow that's great! hopefully he uses his money wisely and does not squander it.
Delete- I find it amazing that a teenager at the age of 16 would have $300K! He made the right choices and went with his gut when getting those penny stocks. He is a lucky kid and I agree with Chris that he doesn’t spend his money rapidly and instead save it so when there is a financial problem later on in life, that he will not have to worry and that is an amazing thing to know and feel.
DeleteThis is honestly amazing how this kid could make all that money. He is really smart, taking risks but making money.
DeleteIt's pretty impressive how this kid made 300k off of penny stocks. It just shows how much money you can make if you know how to play the stock market.
DeleteThat is pretty cool that a kid could make 300 k just from playing around with the stock market. All while sitting in class and making money. Good for him
DeleteThis is amazing that he raised all that money by himself. It shows that he knows how to work hard and save money.
DeleteThis is great! It amazes me how people spend hundreds of dollars on get-rich-quick schemes and this boy decided to risk $10,000 in a world usually inhabited by adults. $300,000 can go a long way as a teenager if he invest in it (I'm sure he won't have an issue with that). This kid would not be caught texting in class, but buying and selling stocks.
DeleteTyphoon Hagupit lost some strength as it spiraled northwest through the Philippines on Sunday, but its hulking presence threatened more damage and evoked frightening memories, 13 months after deadly Typhoon Haiyan blasted the same region. This Typhoon is known to have left at least "2" people dead, but many damaged and scarred. While Haiyan killed more than 6,000 people, the Philippine government is blaming only two deaths on Hagupit so far. Anyways, more than 900,000 people from nearly 200,000 families have been adversely affected by the cyclone. The storm, which has battered several regions of the Philippines since Saturday, now poses new dangers: a huge storm surge, intense flooding and landslides from a volcano. At least 100,000 people evacuated Tacloban before Typhoon Hagupit struck, the U.N. humanitarian agency OCHA Philippines said. That's half the population of the city. "There was a lot of preparation," OCHA spokeswoman Orla Fagan said. "I think that the lessons learned were very hard ones in Tacloban ... because there were so many lives lost, and I think they've really taken cognizance this time and really made an all-out effort everywhere to bring people to safety."
ReplyDeleteI would have suggested that once that first typhoon hit first, they would have some safety precautions in case something like that ever happened again (which, in this case, it did). When I read up more on this, I found they were doing an evacuation when Hagupit hit. It is bearing down on the capital; Manila, right now and lots of people are trying to get out but are vulnerable to flooding and devastation to their homes. There, luckily, isn’t a lot of casualties, if at all, but there are limits to what they can hold in shelters. People everywhere are taking it upon themselves to help via donations. It is great that people are trying their best to help these families and that they are being taken care of.
DeleteI think that these natural disasters are very scary, even though you prepare for it for a long time, it can still kill you. Also that your house and all your valuables will be lost forever, and you can't get them back no matter what you do. I like that they are putting a lot of time and money into this situation because it is very important. Our lives are so important so I’m happy that they are putting all this effort into this.
DeleteI think our people need to help out with first aid and many more. We have advanced medicine and technology that could bring out many more survivors in the Philippines. I think that all these natural disasters occurring at once are very overwhelming to people living in the areas that the disasters have happened in. Along with people that have died many more are injured and could die. Sicknesses could also be spread around. They basically need somewhere to stabally to go for the time being until homes are prepared and they are treated for what physical/mental injuries that has happened to the individual.
DeleteI think these disasters are very frightening and are horrible when many hit at once. We can't really know when they are going to hit, people are not only hurt physically but mentally too. Many families have lost their houses with all their stuff, and might be injured. I think it is great that people are trying to help with these situations. This could really help with the people who lose their homes.
DeleteThese disasters are truly tragic no ones knows when these problems will come. the best thing to do is have a plan and at least try to prevent these things from happening, but i get sometimes its out of our reach we just have to hope for the better
DeleteKurdish women a force to be reckoned with for ISIS
ReplyDeleteIn this article, Kurdish women are a fierce force against the notorious terrorist group ISIS. These woman from the People’s Protection Units (YPG), have fought ISIS, in Syria, for around a year. They are fighting at the front lines to keep the group from invading the Kurdish parts of northern Syria. Kurdish’s ideology was founded partly on the idea of gender equality. These brave women defend and protect their people. They carry weapons to prevent themselves from becoming slaves of ISIS. While ISIS kidnaps thousands of women and hide them in territories they control, the YPG group protect themselves, but are still at risk from becoming one of these kidnapped women. I think it is great that these women are not allowing themselves to be submissive and are fighting for their homeland. This proves woman can achieve just as much as men can in battle. Currently, the United States are helping the YPG by sending them weaponry and helping to blunt advances from ISIS. These Kurdish women are seriously a force to be reckoned with. But aside for the Kurdish- controlled zone, other towns in northern Syria are in sharp contrast rom them. ISIS- controlled zones hide kidnapped women, while in Kurdish zones, the women walk freely, fight, and their faces are even uncovered. These brave, Kurdish woman are celebrated everywhere.
Obama promotes computer science with middle schoolers
ReplyDeletePresident Obama visited with New Jersey Middle school students in order to promote computer science programs. These students participated in the “Hour of Code” event, where they learned how to create programming codes. This was part of the Computer Science Education Week. The White House announced that seven of the nation’s largest school districts are joining more than 50 others to start offering computer science courses. President Obama made a good point about how its important to get girls involved in computer science because they are under-represented in the sciences. He also said that America could invent stuff and make stuff, not just use it. This is so true because America doesn’t get much credit for what we create and with these new programs, the younger generations will become more educated with computer sciences. President Obama says that it is important to know how to make the video games, instead of just playing them. I think that is a good idea for him to visit schools because he has a huge impact on students and the fact that he can actually use the software himself, shows that it can be very useful to learn. These students are the future of America, so they need to be educated in things that are going to be more advanced.
I think that's cool how he went to the middle to see the students' learning process and to teach them something that has a big emphasis on the technology that we use today. I would even like if we did an activity like that, since I'm interested in computers myself.
DeleteIt's good that the president is doing something about the future generation of students by providing new technology that they can practice on for the new and improved technical world that is coming closer than we think. New things, scientific breakthroughs are happening. We already now how to get rid of Ebola in America in a matter of a month, i think thats extraordinary! If this intelligence increases in a matter of 10 years we need to be able to keep up the pace and by using new technology.
DeleteIt's good that computer science is being promoted in the United States because that's really where the world is moving to. With the current state of technology the demand for these kind of jobs is going to increase.
DeleteIt’s not surprising that this increase of computer science education is occurring. Since, in the near future, many jobs that do not require much skill from human labor will be replaced by bots and other automated systems, computer programming would be an important ability to master. More jobs would be opening up for programming new systems. If these computer science programs were not to be put into effect, I believe a majority of the population would be unemployed due to lack of skills and inability to find a job that wasn’t already occupied by a bot. Overall, I find this new promotion to be positive, as it will prepare the future generation for things to come.
DeleteThe mother of a 12-year-old Cleveland boy fatally shot by police last month broke her silence on Monday, saying the officers involved should be criminally convicted.T amir Rice, who was black, was shot in a Cleveland park Nov. 22 while carrying a replica gun that typically fires plastic pellets. Right when the police car pulled up next to the kid; they shot him. This is very sad because even though the gun was fake, the 12 year old child didn't mean to cause any harm. The cops literally shot the kid 2 seconds after they pulled up. They didn't give the kid any caution whatsoever, they didn't even tell him anything, they just shot the kid without any reason. "Tamir was a bright child, he had a promising future, and he was very talented in all sports - soccer, basketball, football. This kid had a future and he could of done something in this world. Cops need to be more careful now, I believe that only the best of the best cops should be accepted into that job because it is very important and it can affect other people’s lives. These cops will live the rest of their lives in regret because of this “mistake”
ReplyDeleteI agree that the cops will live the rest of their life in regret, but the cop and the young boy were both wrong in this case. Nobody should be walking around the streets with a gun even if it was a fake. The cop saw him as a threat so he did what he thought was right. The cop should have talked to the boy before shooting him. It is sad how this could happen to such a young boy, who had a bright future.
DeleteBoth people in this situation were wrong the police should have talked it out first, and the kid should not just walk around the streets with a gun (even if it is fake). And, you’re right the cops will have to live in regret the rest of their life, and hopefully they will, because that was a poor mistake on their part.
DeleteI agree with you what they did was wrong. The boy didn't mean any harm at all. Even though he was walking around with a fake gun and it might have looked suspicious doesn't mean that their life needs to taken away. Police officers need to realize that shooting a gun doesn't solve every problem. I find it very sad that he was shot he had so much going for him. Its not fair.
DeleteI think the police were just doing their job. They have been getting many threats since the Michael Brown/ Eric Garner incident. They were only following what their bosses told them to do to protect themselves and others. From the point of view that the police had a view of a gun and the first instinct is that there was going to be a shooting. But the flaw thing that the police did was not look into it. He was a 12 year old kid that was causing no harm. At the end of the day a 12 year old boy that couldve had a bright future and a family had his life taken away from him because he has to what has thought to be a real gun but was not on him. This whole racial discrimination is getting out of hand and many are loosing their lives because of it and its not fair no matter what the color of your skin is you have no right to take away someones life if they are innocent.
DeleteI think it's sad that this 12 year old kid died for the officers' mistake. They didn't even give him a chance to see what he was going to do. Even if they felt nervous they could have handled this situation any other way. They could have tazed him or shot his arm to disarm him. Their first choice shouldn't have been to kill.
DeleteI think they were both in the wrong but the policeman was just trying to do his job, they have so many life threating situations, they do their best. The man should not have shot the boy but the boy shouldn’t have been walking around with a fake gun. The policeman thought he was doing the right thing at the time but he will have to live with this for the rest of his life.
DeleteWhile it was wrong of the kid to be walking around with a fake gun, and there is part of a fault of his decision to do so, I think the policeman was more at fault of the situation. Even if this wasn't a race issue, the cops immediate reaction should not have been to shoot and kill the kid, whether or not there was a gun in his possession - real or fake, and the fact he never even pointed the gun at the officer. That goes against all the proper training cops are supposed to have to know what to do in this type of situation instead of going straight to shooting, especially since it was somebody so young. If you read a few articles on this topic, you find out the 911 caller even told the officer the gun was "probably a fake." Any other actions could've been taken place to straighten out the situation instead of taking the life of an innocent person.
DeleteHonestly police officers can NOT just go around firing their stupid guns when ever they feel like it, but shooting a young boy? Not nessisary at all. just prove how immature and irresponsible some police officers are. Makes me feel that if i was ever in a bad situation that i would never call the police because they are making it harder and harder to trust them now-a-days. The kid was shooting a fake gun? Just tell him to stop and if he doesnt call his own mother. Shooting a young boy for absolutely no reason and actually murdering him is not something that should go away.
DeleteTime - Ferguson Protesters Arrested at NYC’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
ReplyDeleteA small group broke away from the designated route and tried to approach the floats. A group of protesters were arrested Thursday at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade while demonstrating in the wake of the announcement that a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., would not be indicted in the death of an unarmed black teenager.
Officers of the New York City Police Department arrested seven protesters after they broke from their designated route and attempted to approach the iconic floats, PIX 11 reports. Others who did not attempt a disruption were not detained.
The protesters, affiliated with #stoptheparade, were decrying the killings of Akai Gurley, Eric Garner and others. The campaign comes days after the grand jury decision not to charge Ferguson cop Darren Wilson in the August shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

DeleteI believe that the whole "Ferguson Protest" is completely idiotic. I get that the kid died and it was very tragic, but you never see a white kid getting killed by a black cop on the news, but it happens ALL THE TIME. Yes, it's good to protest in which you believe in but don't go up to the floats at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade! Thanksgiving is a day for giving thanks and giving compassion and love not rage and anger.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Deleteknow it is not the smartest thing to do, but you need to understand WHY they did this. This is happening way to frequently. I sense a lot of hostility within these comments, but It seems as though you guys are not looking at the bigger picture. @Alexis Herman No it does not happen all the time.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteNo protests are not idiotic. You mean to tell me that the marches and protest during the civil rights movements are idiotic? No, they weren't because look at us now. We are no longer segregated. They want justice. Yes they are angry. And yes destroying towns is not a great idea, but instead of looking at it like that, look at WHY they are doing it. They need attention from the government. If a black cop kills a white child, the cop does receive consequences. It's not the fact that the Michael Brown was killed, but it was because they have not received any kind of closure. Just think of it like this, 400 hundred years of slavery, then segregation, and now we are living in the 21st century and we still haven't reached equality yet. What about "Justice for all"?
DeleteMy dad told me about this. While it's true that people need to be aware of what's going on, it's also true to do things the right way and not commit reckless actions like that, or anything that will get you in trouble. People are going to have trouble being persuaded by such a potentially destructive movement. If we want the cops and other significant people relating to this national problem to listen, we have to do it the peaceful way.
DeleteI know this is a sensitive topic, so I do want to say that I am not implying to insult anyone dealing with the case.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThis protest is at a place that has literally NOTHING to do with Michael Brown's death. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is supposed to be an event where people forget about the bad things and are happy. Also the people that are protesting about this aren't fixing the situation, it perpetuates the problem rather than solving it. People need to respect the family's mourning. I went up North and people were still protesting about it, it was on the news CONSTANTLY due to the fact that Michael Brown has turned into a symbol for racism. I bet the family is hurting day-by-day, probably unable to turn on the news anymore because that's all they'll see and it's hard to live with. I am very against racism however, this is not what I am arguing. I'm arguing on how the protests are being handled inappropriately. The people may have not had closure for his death and don't ever have closure towards racism but, they're protesting the incorrect way. These protests should be handled peacefully and not violently which, is how these protests have been handled. I understand that it may be to get the attention of the government but, if they wanted this problem to be solved they need to understand that violence isn't the answer. Yes, they can make it apparent that the issue hurts them and they need closure but they don't need to express their feelings through violent protests. I disagree with @Alexis because it isn't idiotic. There is a reason for them to protest but, they're only protesting the incorrect way. Since this issue has more over turned towards racism because Michael Brown has turned into an icon/symbol towards it, they're even more hurt. But as I have said, this won't be solved through violence since violence is never the answer to anything. The protesters need to realize that they should be acting less hostile and more peaceful, protests always grab attention but if it became more of a peaceful protest I think the government would be more willing to help give closure and solve the issue. @MaddieK I'm sorry if I ever came off as angry and insulting towards the people of the protest or the reason of the protest, I was only trying to explain that how the protests were being handled were wrong. That's what was angering me rather than the actions and emotions of the protesters.
DeleteI understand what you are saying. I personally don't think there is an "incorrect" way of protesting. When you go back to the civil rights movement, there were plenty of methods used for protesting including riots. Truth is riots were one of the main effective methods of protesting were in fact riots because it finally grabbed the governments attention. I have no problem with your opinion, but the way you delivered your message just kind of seemed harsh and kind of insensitive to me. Thanks for clearing it up for me. :) No hard feelings.
DeleteI understand that you feel that there is no incorrect way of protesting but, I do have to admit that violence should really never be the answer because violence can get out of hand. It may have worked back in history but, it isn't solving anything today. That's just how I feel. I'm glad there is nothing between us but, it's only my personal opinion. :)
DeleteThere's protesting and there's stupidity which is what happened that day. If they had just left out the violence they would've been fine. I understand that they think it is all racism but it's just getting annoying.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete@Tina Haller. Racist cops are getting annoying. Can you honestly blame the people for protesting? No. Put yourself in their shoes. Blame our corrupted Law Enforcement.
DeleteI partially agree with Alexis about the idea that Thanksgiving is a day for giving thanks and giving compassion and love, not rage and anger. Here is another idea though; protests are about people showing expression of objection by words or by actions and that is exactly what the protestors were doing. If any of us were in their shoes we would do everything in our power to share our opinions and make things "right".
DeleteShielding Children From Talk of Ferguson and Garner - The New York Times
ReplyDeleteIn the news lately, citizens from Ferguson and people from all over have been talking about the deaths and tragic situations of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. But to some extent, people are getting tired of it and hiding their children from the violence of the world and it's problems. On one hand, I understand what parents are trying to do, but I also think exposure to this is needed, because you can;t shield your chidden away from the fact that the people who are trying to keep us safe, are also the one's hurting us the most. You can't teach a child to call the cops if he's in trouble but also warn your children about cops being dangerous, it's contradicting. I also feel for the parents who feel threatened by the police, and are trying to teach their children how to "behave" around people of authority. Honestly, I found this article to be pretty disturbing due to the different views of parents to children on the worlds issue right now. I don't think that children should be fully exposed to all of the controversy, but I don't think it's right to tell your children that the world is all rainbows and butterfly, while cops are choking men on the street and shooting people like its nothing.
That's funny as discussion on hot topics has been shielded from many different brackets of people. Just this morning, I heard of a professor from Marquette University, a Catholic school, getting suspended because of a debate of a controversial topic but as he supported a student's opinion, suspension followed. I believe that opinions should be openly shared with peers as it provides insight for the audience and the feedback allows the speaker to refine and improve their arguments.
DeleteI think that the parents are right to do this kids shouldn't have to see this. The protests about racism are just too much. I think kids would start asking a lot of questions and some stuff they just shouldn't know about. And I also think that kids might think that this stuff is okay and it's not.
DeleteI see why people would want to keep this away from their children, but at the same time I think that it is important that we talk to our children and teach them about the harsh reality of racism in America.
DeleteI think this is a bad thing, because children do need the exposure to these types of crimes, but i don' t believe the police officers were in the wrong in both of these situations, and children still need to know that calling the police is important, and they're not going to be shot for calling. I think this is what the main issue is, people see what happened and assuming the police are the culprits to these crimes.
DeleteI find myself neutral pondering this topic. As mentioned, this is a contradictory idea. I believe that parents are entitled to what their child can and cannot be educated about what is occurring in the world. On one side, I think a child should be able to enjoy their time growing up and be unaware of the corruptness around them until they are mature enough to handle such heavy topics. On the other side, kids should know that the police could be both helpful and dangerous. Overall, this is a complicated question to answer due to the different views and opinions of everyone.
DeleteAnother California freeway shut down as 'Week of Outrage' gets under way// CNN
ReplyDeleteIt has become a part of people's lives, to riot throughout the streets at night, for the rights of our citizens. "Eric Garner Jr., the son of the man who died after a New York police officer held him in a chokehold, said he was proud of how protesters are carrying on." The families of the innocent men and women, kids, black or white, cannot fight this battle alone, and these cases open something bigger than just letting someone get away with killing innocent people, but also opens up a question on if they are letting cops abuse their authority. People have ruined the streets and their towns, they have shut down streets, and I feel like it is a cool thing that our country still comes together to fight for something that is right. "Before the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers faced off on the basketball court Monday night, several players were already scoring points with protesters outside the arena." Bringing athletes into the situation makes a even bigger impact, because it spreads the word out more and people look into the situation. I feel like putting more light on the situation, could raise awareness and change the ending to another case like Eric Garner.
I’m glad that we has Americans can come together and protest and express our feelings with out being killed or sent to jail. I also feel like it’s a wonderful idea to have athletics get involved into the protest. We as Americans look up to these celebrities and Americans may step out now that they see their favorite player saying that it’s not okay. Us protesting and rioting is one of the great reasons why America is such a wonderful country.
DeleteI agree that what happened in NY was horrible. But rioting like that? That's such a waste & what does it do? It doesn't solve anything. We shouldn't try to solve things by trashing and ruining our own cities, that's just going to annoy anyone in charge of the Police Department. And even if they listen, it's not like they can come up with a solution to the Police problem over night. I'm sorry, but I highly disagree with these actions.
DeleteIt's great that people are rioting, and putting their voices and opinion out there for all to see and here, but I think at a certain point it becomes too much. Bring athletes and other people into the situation is great and all but, I know what happened is terrible, but I just think it comes to a certain point where something should really be done, excepting for just shutting down high ways because people are trying to prove a point
DeleteThis just dumbfounds me when people act like that. They riot and shut down streets, and end up ruining the town, but for what? To get the point across, or get their feelings out? Problems can be dealt with in a civilized and practical manner, not like barbarians. There are many ways to fight for what you think is right without the violence like speeches, organizations, petitions, etc.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteWhile it's good that people are realizing the problems our country faces and are beginning to fight for what's right, theres an extent to how they should voice those opinions. Rioting, destroying towns and cities, and even shutting down roads and businesses are not the best ways to change things. I know people are angry and want to put an end to things such as racial discrimination and police brutality, but peaceful protests and working together as a community to fulfill these ideas would be more effective than going out in a full on rage. Working towards getting policemen to wear cameras on duty could be the first step to end police brutality. And the fact that famous athletes are starting to voice their opinions as well is a great way to help get more people involved.
DeletePersonally, I feel that if a member of my family died, peace would be a necessity. While everyone mourns differently, I still believe that rioting is a violent form of protest that is honestly inappropriate and “barbaric” (as Chris said). The issue is not solved through violent rioting, but peaceful protest, as said Theodore Roosevelt stated, “Speak softly, but carry a big stick.” Therefore, we should be encouraged to reach a solution in a quiet, peaceful manner, yet make an impression to promote change.
DeleteJayne and Jon Cornwill with baby Emmerson. Photo by Facebook.
ReplyDelete“Ever heard of “gender disappointment”? Jayne and Jon Cornwill certainly have. It’s what drove the Australian couple to mortgage their house, fly to California, and cough up nearly $50,000 to take advantage of technology called pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) for a single purpose: to choose the sex of their baby at the outset of pregnancy, a practice that’s illegal in their home country.” Yahoo news.
I feel like they are playing god. They should let biology take its place and decide if the baby is a boy or girl. If they were meant to have a girl them they should have a girl. They should not force the make up the biological make up of the child. It could cause problems fro her down the road. If the baby was meant to be a boy if may be confused emotionally and physically. I feel like things should not be forced especially the sex of a baby. Things should let things play through nature and people should try to stop making their “perfect” child their child should be perfect to them no matter what he or she may look like.
I completely agree you should let nature take its toll, and let biology chose the gender of the baby. But, they really wanted a girl and had all ready had three boys, so to them this was the only option that got them what they wanted.
DeleteTheir numbers aren't large, but professional athletes are starting to take a more visible role in protesting police violence. The growing outcry comes in the midst of a "week of outrage" over police brutality after recent deaths of unarmed black men in Ferguson, Missouri and New York. The outage peaked twice in recent weeks as grand juries decided not to indict white police officers in the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Witnesses said Brown had his hands up when he was shot and killed.
ReplyDeleteIn Garner's case, he was put in a chokehold. His final words: "I can't breathe. I can't breathe."
Professional athletes joined the demonstrations on November 30 when five St. Louis Rams players made the "hands up, don't shoot" gesture before a game against the Oakland Raiders to remember Brown.
The public displays of support have been subtle, poignant and slowly gaining momentum. With the national debate ramping up, it's seems likely professional athletes will continue to keep this ball in play. I feel like this is necessary because there are so many cases that have to do with social inequality, racism, and so much more that has to do with police brutality. People are finally standing up and fighting.
I feel like even though professional athletes have a right to their opinion it doesn’t need to be stated on television because it could cause people to start even more criminal acts like there is a Ferguson. While both of these police men are somewhat in the wrong for their actions the protest are creating other police men to be on edge because of the stress put on them to completely follow rules and to know people may look at them like the other police men who shot the two men
DeleteThree people were killed the night of December 8, 2014 when they were hit by another car after they had stopped to assist a motorist whose vehicle hit a black bear. Caroline Billie was driving when she saw the bear crossing the street and was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting it. The bear was killed during this accident and Billie car was damaged so much that she was not able to drive away in it. A little while later three vehicles traveling together stopped on the side of the road to assist the women. Eight people were in the cars, when another vehicle traveling in the other direction hit the SUV and sideswiped one of the stopped vehicles into the people on the road shoulder. The Broward Sheriff’s office sent in helicopters to fly four people to a trauma center, and four others were taken by ambulance. Of the eight taken to the hospital five could be treated and released. The investigators were still trying to figure everything out the nest morning. The bear was a 300-pound adult male, according to Carli Segelson, spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She also said that through December 5, there had only been one bear-related road kill in Broward Country and 15 in Collier County. There have been 132 bears killed statewide during that time. And, over half of them have belonged to the Ocala National Forest.
ReplyDeleteDriving safely has been a serious issue forever. It's as if people assume the best case scenario, which only promotes unsafe decisions. If everyone is aware of the seriousness of the risks of hazardous driving. Hospitalizing this many people is treacherous and should be avoided at all costs in the future. One wrong decision while driving your vehicle could put another person in critical condition in the ICU.
DeleteLiving in fear: Egypt's gay community
ReplyDeleteAn engagement between two men has occurred within the Nile river bank in Egypt. That was before they were arrested. After a video of their gay wedding spread across Egypt's social media, the two men were sentence to 3 years in prison for distributing pornographic material. It is technically not illegal, but the people in the LGBT(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Community have been arrested many times for pornography, prostitution, or debauchery. Because of this, a lot of people in Egypt are hiding their sexual orientation. Frankly, I don't find this shocking. I think it's wrong, especially since it's people getting arrested even when they're not committing a crime. There are so many places in the world that are against the LGBT community and it's heard about so much, that it just proves how we(People of the world) need to work on accepting others. Which has been a problem for a long time. Especially when it's something against someone's religion or philosophies. Although, I really do hope that this problem ends in Egypt. People don't deserve to be punish for the way they were born.
Newsela- Kids can pick clothes for free at a special store
ReplyDeleteIn this article, Lynda Walsh wants to help kids who are in need and provide them with clothing. She stated that many parents can not afford to buy clothes for their kids. So she decided to open up a clothing store where kids can come and pick out clothes for free. They can take as much as they want. She also stated that many of them came back from war and how many of them couldn’t find any jobs. Kids can take shoes, purses and hats and so much more. Lynda asked all of her friends and family to help donate. She said that everyone who came to receive clothing was happy and so grateful. I feel that what Lynda Walsh is doing is for a great cause.
- I agree with Rebecca, what Lydia is doing is a great cause. Giving clothing to children that don’t have any and not having to pay a penny really doesn’t lighten my heart. I think there should be more people like her in this world or chaos and hate. What I believe the best part out of this blessing is that she isn’t buying clothes with money out of her pocket but having the community donate the clothes and accessories.
DeleteNASA’s curiosity finds a key that may unlock the martian mystery
ReplyDeleteNASA’s curiosity rover which was sent out in August of 2012 may have found proof that there was water on mars meaning it was possible there was life. This waster could have spanned the 96 mile wide crater. Water could have lasted long enough for tiny particles called microbes to form but to keep water moving for that long mars would need a hydrological system the atmosphere may have been warm enough just not thick enough. A scientist said that the rocks show marks that hard forces of water leaves so it is very possible mars once contained water. I think that it would be really cool if mars could actually sustain life because it could also be possible that other planets may have life also. So if mars was actually once a water rich area that could also raise concerns because of that much water would be able to dissolve that Earth water over time could dissolve also it would obviously not be anytime soon since it looks like it took over ten thousand years to dissolve but it could still raise concerns of one day earth water being dissolved.
It is so amazing as to how the human mind and innovation can team up with a robot to make one of mankind's greatest discoveries. Hopefully within the next 100 years, humans will be able to colonize the red planet. Unfortunately, due to more funding cuts and the increase in privatization of space exploration, it may be a long and tedious task. However not impossible, we are Americans after all.
DeleteI think this is awesome, because all of the work and effort these scientist have put into this project has finally had results worth publishing, knowing there was water on mars can lead to more ground breaking findings like the fossils aquatic organisms being found in the remnants of the water, or many more discoveries. The possibilities are endless.
DeleteCan you really die from a broken heart?
ReplyDeleteLosing a loved one can be very heart breaking new studies show that it can be more than just “symbolic” where the chances of experiencing a partners death the other person will experience a heart attack or a stroke from at least 30 days after. There are grief medication and stress medication to help with this sort of issue. Sometimes the grief consumes you. The article states “The researchers found that 16 per 10,000 people whose partners died experienced heart attacks or strokes within 30 days of their partner dying, compared with only 8 per 10,000 from the control population.” Which when someone loses a loved one they begin to fall as individuals and become consumed in grief. So maybe the term “Heartbroken” isn’t just a word that means you’re sad or upset. According to research it could have another meaning one stronger.
This is called broken heart syndrome it is almost exclusively seen in postmenopausal women it is actually very rare. It is cause by a surge of stress hormones. I think it’s very sweet that someone is grieving so much they experience the symptoms of a heart attack. On the other hand it would be very scary for the doctors that are taking care of the patient and the family members of the patient.
DeleteThis is actually kinda cool. Not the fact that people are dying, but that it is possible to die from a broken heart, or just loneliness when someone you love dies. But at the same time I think more medical research needs to be done. If someone can die from a broken heart, wouldn't it happen to anyone?
DeleteCNN NEWS- 2 New York police officers 'assassinated' ; shooter dead
ReplyDeleteTwo NYPD officers were shot and killed while ambushed in their police car. The policemen's names were Officer Rafael Ramos (in the drivers seat) and by his side Officer Wenjian Liu. These two were not in their normal spots for patrol. They were working in a Brooklyn neighborhood with a higher crime rate than others. The shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley drove all the way from Baltimore after wounding his thought to be ex-girlfriend and made tweets and Instagram posts saying he wanted revenge for the killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. The shooter went up to the passenger side of the police car and shot both the officers in the head several times. After he went to a subway station and died from a self-inflicted wound. It is told ot believe the officers were not engaging the shooter at all. Now two families are without a father or husband or loved one on the holidays. Just because they are cops does not mean they are bad people.
I understand why the shooter did this, but that doesn't mean it's right. Those two NYPD officers didn't shoot Michael Brown and weren't involve in Ferguson at all. Like you said, not all cops are bad people and you shouldn't just assume that because they're cops they're bad. Two innocent people should not have to pay for something they weren't even involved in.
DeleteI heard about this on the news while I was up North. I understand the reason of it but they didn't need to kill two innocent police officers of whom had nothing related to Michael Brown or Eric Garner. Also, why murder two innocent people? They weren't even doing anything, they were in their police car. They were ambushed. As you & @Theresa Reynolds mentioned not all cops are bad, plus, they do a background check of someone before they become a cop anyways, so don't just assume that all cops are bad when they aren't. That shooter had no right to kill two innocent cops who weren't even involved with the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. There are plenty of protests that are going on, even though, they are violent protests that probably should be more peaceful however, that isn't the point. His extreme violence was not necessary and there are now two families that have lost a loved one. It just isn't fair to the friends and families of those two officers.
DeleteThe fact of why the shooter would shoot the cops because of the Michael Brown insident is understandable. Meanwhile, cops do their job they protect people just because one cop had to be a complete idiot. Does not mean all of the cops in the whole world are. Cops should be more respected these days and should be aware more of their surroundings. If the cops were eve scooping out the high crime rated place than they should have been more careful in my oppinion. But it happened and theres nothing to really do about it. If the man is so upset about how people accused Michael Brown than why in the world would this man go and shoot cops because of the insident wasn't ths whole Michael Brown situation because the police officer was discriminating him? So basically the man who murdered the policemen is discriminating as well making this whole scenario of his completely pointless proving yet another fact about discrimination.
DeleteWe Lost Our Infant Son to SIDS-
ReplyDeleteAt the age of 3 months old, Jeremiah Jr. (also known as “JJ”) died in the hospital on November 2nd, 2007 from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Mother (Michelle Crispino) and father (Jeremiah Crispino) hurried to the hospital when they received a phone call from the hospital saying their son stopped breathing while taking a nap in the daycare, but before they arrived the son had passed away. It’s such a tragic for JJ to be a victim of SIDS. SIDS is the unexplained sudden death (usually during sleeping) of a seemingly healthy baby less than one year old, also known as the “Crib Death” usually caused when a baby is born with low birth weight or breathing problems. After the tragic incident the couple went to Maryland’s Center for Infant and Child Loss (CICL) to be with other couples that have experienced this terrible tragic moment when they’ve lost their children to SIDS. Two years later in 2009, the couple had another baby named Gracie. They quoted “ She is our last child, but not our only child”. They still work with the CICL by doing fundraiser walks and working with the community.

It is very sad and I hope the couple will heal from the pain. God rest your soul Jeremiah Jr

ReplyDeleteA 7 year old was in a plane crash and found help from Larry Wilkins. Her mom, dad, sister and cousin died in the plane crash. Sailor went through the dark, cold and rough territory for three quarters of a mile. After she found Larry, Larry called the police and Sailor was taken to the hospital. She didn’t have any life threatening injuries. The plane was headed from Florida to Illinois, but crashed in Lyon County. Sailor must have saw Wilkins’s street lights through the woods. Wilkins says it’s lucky she went that way because his house is one of only three houses that are occupied in the winter. I think it’s amazing how a 7 year old girl could survive a plane crash and survive her walk through the woods. It’s amazing how she found Wilkins house too when she could’ve found one of the unoccupied houses. I feel sad for her though that she lost her whole family.

DeleteI saw the wreckage on the news last week and that girl is very brave. It was even said that she had a broken arm when she took this voyage into the woods. If I were her I would probably just stand there and be completely confused as to what to do and where to go. I know this because I can't even drive around our small town without getting lost.
DeleteI had heard about this. i find it incredible how a 7 year old can have the strength to go out and find help, especially after your family had just died. Unfortunately this is something that will scar her for the rest of her life.
DeleteThis is incredible that a 7-year-old girl would have the courage to survive and try to stay alive after she had lost all of her family in a plane crash. I also feel bad for the girl because this event will affect her for the rest of her life.
DeleteIn the fourth quarter with Detroit up 20-17, Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew ran a route on third down and was obstructed by Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens, who never turned to face the ball while it was in the air. It was pass interference. A flag was thrown, the foul was announced, and the Lions were given a first down. And then they weren’t.
ReplyDeleteHead referee Pete Morelli took back the call, didn’t offer an explanation, and all of a sudden Detroit had a fourth down instead of a first and had to punt the ball back to Dallas.Several penalties and 59 yards later, the Cowboys took the lead for good.
After the game, Morelli offered up the following explanation for the on-field debacle.

Yes they are going to miss some calls and make some bad ones but when it comes down to the important calls they have to be made, especially ones that are blatant and could cost a team the game.
Some things are just unexplainable. Refs can call the stupidest fouls or penalties and act like it wont affect the outcome of a game. I know first hand what having a bad ref feels like and nothing is worse than getting a bs call.
DeleteCNN - Studies show bad luck can cause cancer
ReplyDeleteIn a recent medicine research study, scientists have found that two thirds of cancers are caused by the cell division of different cell tissues in organs, causing the replications of DNA to mutate and promote cancer growth. The study was of the total number of cell division in 31 different tissues within a human lifetime and the cancer risk of each. The more they divide, the higher risk of cancer developing in that tissue. Of 31 of the cell divisions, 22 could be determined as bad luck cancers. Colon cancer is an example of this; colon tissues divide more than any other intestinal tissue and risks of getting colon cancer by bad luck is high. But bad luck isn’t the only culprit, the likeliness of higher chances of cancer are influenced by a combination of bad luck, environment, and heredity. Lung cancer and Skin cancer were of the nine unaffected and smoking and sun exposure are still linked to them. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine research study, there should be no change in what methods are used to prevent cancer and having a healthy lifestyle is still encouraged to reduce the risk of cancer. "Changing our lifestyle and habits will be a huge help in preventing certain cancers, but this may not be as effective for a variety of others," medical statistician Cristian Tomasetti said. While its good the causes to cancer are being discovered and being researched more, it’s also a terrifying thought that getting cancer can be based on a luck factor. Its crazy to think that smokers can live to be over 70 years old and get no trace of lung cancer while a healthy 30 year old can suddenly get colon cancer for almost no reason.
The Secret to Talking to Teens (And All Kids) About Weight
ReplyDelete- Today, teens don’t get forced to lose weight; they do it on their own. There are many reasons as to why and how teens are losing weight and it is mostly because seeing a role model. When a child sees their parent exercise and eat healthier, they tend to follow the steps. Also, children and teens will lose weight with peer pressure in a good way for example; if a teen and his friends want to lose weight, then they will help each other out by telling each other to not drink/eat sugary drinks/foods. It will not only develop in healthier lifestyles but a healthier relationship. If you are a parent and want your children to eat healthier, then when you go to the grocery store, have your child/children pick out a vegetable or fruit to eat later on so they aren’t forced to eat anything they didn’t want to eat. This will cause children and teens to not push away vegetables and fruits because it is their own choice to eat the thing that they picked out. Teenagers are very hostile at their age so if you tell them to do a certain type of chore or not allowing them to eat a certain type of food, then they will most likely rebel and do the things that they aren’t supposed to do. This could also cause teenagers to binge the food that they weren’t supposed to eat so there isn’t any evidence. If you were a good parent, then you would loosen up the reins and let your child do things for a change.
I agree that losing weight relies on external powers (parents or friends), rather than just willpower. Parents that "force" their kids to eat healthy foods they like and play sports they enjoy will most likely have healthy children. If parents never or sparsely purchase unhealthy/junk food, then they will condition their kids to never crave those foods.
DeleteOn Thursday around midnight a little girl in Tampa was thrown off a bridge, by her dad. This was after he filed a domestic abuse report on his wife and it was declined. He threw the child off the bridge after speeding past a police car and being pursued. The man (JonChuck) refused to talk to the officers. It took cops quite a while to find Phoebe's body. Jonchuck was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, and running from a cop. He has been charged for battery numerous times and he has one DUI charge.
ReplyDeletePrayers for that little girl and her family. Such a sad story that no one was able to help or stop this from happening. Considering he had multiple battery charges, he probably shouldn't have had custody of his child in the first place.
DeleteWith negotiations underway in a hostage standoff with the suspected gunmen in Wednesday's massacre at a French satirical newspaper office, a second hostage situation was reported in eastern Paris Friday. The major operation to detain the massacre suspects, identified by officials as French citizens Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, is underway in the village, which is located about 20 miles northeast of Paris and near the Charles de Gaulle airport. Helicopters and hundreds of security forces backed by ambulances streamed to the town, and French special forces could be seen on a nearby rooftop.Town officials posted a message online instructing residents to shelter in place. "If you live in the town stay in your home. Children in schools are in lockdown," the statement reads. The event is still unfolding as we speak.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/08/world/europe/charlie-hebdo-paris-shooting.html
ReplyDeleteOn January 8, 2015, a group of three terrorist attackers broke into the Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris, leaving 12 dead, including editors, cartoonists, and even policemen. The three attackers’ identities are confirmed to be Said and Chérif Kouachi, and Hamyd Mourad. The 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad surrendered himself in a police station northwest of Paris. The two brothers escaped and are currently on the run. “Police said the dead included four celebrated cartoonists at the weekly, including Mr. Charbonnier, known as Charb, Jean Cabut, Georges Wolinski and Bernard Verlhac.” The victims were shot with military-level precision, bringing light to the question if the shooters were soldiers who had returned from Syria or Iraq. It is unknown if the shooters acted on their own will or acted on the order of organizations such as ISIS or Al Qaeda. The slaughter even prompted an address from President Obama.
“France, and the great city of Paris where this outrageous attack took place, offers the world a timeless example that will endure well beyond the hateful vision of these killers. We are in touch with French officials, and I have directed my administration to provide any assistance needed to help bring these terrorists to justice.” – President Obama
The attackers have repainted the Muslim community as agents of terrorism. The vocal minority is often the loudest, and often serves to misrepresent the whole body. I believe that isolated cases of extremists such as this do not represent those who choose to follow Islam without bloodshed. Nonetheless, what these three shooters have done will rightfully not go unpunished.
Charlie Hebdo: Gun attack on French magazine kills 12
ReplyDeleteFrench Terror Suspects Dead at Both Locations, 3 Hostages Dead, Officials Say
Very recently in France, there was a large shooting at a magazine company where 3 gunmen killed 12 people. This was an apparent militant Islamist attack. Four of the magazine’s well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed, as well as two police officers. After, they fled the scene in a hijacked car. Witnesses said they heard the gunmen shouting “we have avenged the Prophet Muhammad” and “God is Great” in Arabic. In even recent news, three French terror suspects are dead at two separate hostage standoff locations, according to the City Hall of Dammartin and the French ambassador to the U.S. The two hostage-takings were synchronized and officials have identified the two gunmen from the Charlie Hebdo attack, Cherif Kouachi and Said Kouachi, were responsible for one of the hostage-takings. They were in a printing company taking one male employee hostage. The other was located at a kosher supermarket with several more hostages. Overall, I think the terrorists involved in these attacks are overreacting to people insulting an opinion they have. Was it so hard to just ignore it? Were these attacks necessary?
Why Doesn’t Everyone Get the Flu Vaccine? A New Freakonomics Radio Podcast
ReplyDeleteWhy should you get the Flu vaccine or more specifically an Influenza vaccine that works seventy percent of the time? The best reason for getting the shot is so that someone who is young/old and has a weakened immune system will not get it from you. Then you might ask why would be bad for them to get the flu? Having influenza is actually a very serious situation for someone in that category so much that it might lead to death. The influenza virus doesn’t have the ability to kill a person but it makes them more susceptible to other diseases like pneumonia, which is a huge killer.
Most of this podcast was a discussion about what is above. Another discussion topic was on “how to convince the masses to get inoculation.” Which ended up stating that they had to scare people into it. No other method was effective at getting people to get the vaccine.
There are a huge number of people dying from influenza caused diseases so many that is the influenza and pneumonia combination account for the fifth leading cause of death in the United States.
Another point of discussion was that there are so many variation of the virus that experts have a hard time determining which ones to put into flu vaccine for this year. The main variation of influenza that is attacking this year is not in the injection that proves how little we actually know about the virus itself.
by Simon Krassner
I think that people not getting their vaccinations can harm their community, can bring back different diseases that may have been almost eradicated. I really don't understand why people don't get their vaccinations.

ReplyDeleteA 42-year-old Vietnam era OH-58A Bell Kiowa helicopter has cost Newark, New Jersey nearly $2million to repair and maintain this helicopter. This helicopter was given to Newark from the U.S. Army for free. The Newark police department requested by the Newark Police Department in 2002 to assist in stopping the climbing epidemic of carjacking in the area. The helicopter is based at a hangar in Kearny, New Jersey, and is only flown only on Friday and Saturday nights for about 4 hours. Due to the cost of the helicopter, the police department had to lay-off 167 officers in 2010 to cover the fees. Newark paid $27,412 for a invoice to strip the paint, to apply a anti-corrosion coating, then to paint it, plus Newark paid $143, 386 to purchase new rotor blades for the helicopter. The Newark city counsel has approved a $1.13 million in maintenance contracts for the past 5 years for this helicopter. I understand this helicopter is a piece of history, but there is no reson to pay $2 million so you can fly a helicopter for 8 hours a week. Not to mention 167 Police Officers lost their jobs to cover the expenses of the helicopter.

ReplyDeletehttp://www.cbsnews.com/news/airasia-flight-8501-fuselage-black-box-found/
ReplyDeleteThe Main fuselage of AirAsia 8501 has been located on the Java sea floor. The news was brought in the same exact day that the plane's black box was found from the seabed. They now can investigate what key factors helped to bring down the plane. Even though this was a tragic situation, I am glad that they are now piecing together this incident. Many lives were lost that in that situation. I feel that AirAsia should improve their planes craftsmanship and engineering because a recent situation occurred not too long ago. Hopefully they figure out what went wrong with the plane and learn from their mistakes.
First comes Marriage, and then comes divorce
ReplyDeleteGail Wadsworth, the clerk of courts in Flagler County, is excited about gay marriage because of the equality they are now allowed, and according to her records, five people applied to be married on January 6th, and there was also a file for divorce. “First comes gay marriage, then comes divorce,” states the Palm Coast Observer in this article.
Personally, I feel that gay marriage is important to allow. Regardless of your agreement or disagreement on homosexuality, their lives shouldn’t be mandated by your own preference. I also feel that separation of church and state is important to remember here, because ethnocentrism may take place. Ethnocentrism is when you judge someone based on your religious beliefs or ethnic culture (APHG vocab☺). As a citizen of Flagler county, I am actually quite appreciative of this freedom granted to the gay community. While I will not be directly benefitted through this law being established, I am in agreement with the freedom of all people. I am not in favor of freedom exclusively when I am directly benefitted. This is an important mindset to have as an active citizen, a mindset I constantly have to refresh and realign myself into.
I totally agree with everything you said. Everyone must be treated equally under the law regardless of their race, gender, national origin, color, ethnicity, religion, disability, or other characteristics, without privilege, discrimination, or bias. Basically, whether people agree with same sex marriage or not it needs to be accepted in society sooner or later for everyone to be treated equal.
DeleteA type of crime called virtual kidnapping is on the rise. What happens is that someone calls claiming that they have kidnapped a relative and demand a ransom. For instance, the caller might claim to have kidnapped the victim's daughter and have a young woman scream for help in the background during the call.Or the caller might claim a relative was injured in a car accident with a gang member, who won't allow him or her to go to the hospital until vehicle damages are paid. They usually demand the speaker to stay on the line until the money is wired to their account. Most of the people "virtually kidnapping" are Hispanic usually coming from area codes outside of the city, even coming from Puerto Rico. Its crazy how people find new ways to scam others into giving them money.
ReplyDeleteThats crazy and totally scary. It's a shame that this is what people are resorting to get money from people nowadays.
DeleteI think this is pretty scary and freaky to have people out there that would do that to other people. I think its sad that people have to go through all this work to get money these days. We should look out for more people like this and always watch your back.

“Kill Switch” may be standard on all U.S. phones in 2015”
ReplyDeleteAccording to a pledge backed by major mobile phone providers, a system for disabling smartphones and wiping their data, known as the “kill switch” will become standard in 2015. Companies such as Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft partnered with the top five mobile providers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular) to support the pledge. The “kill switch” would enable the owner of the phone to erase contacts, photos, e-mail and other information, and lock the phone so it can't be used without a password. This comes after a recent increase in theft of smartphones and is being used as a method to deter thieves and protect user’s identities. The feature would be offered without any extra charge and in the event that the kill switch is used and the phone is recovered, the owner can retrieve the erased data and restore the phone to the original settings. In Minnesota, the state legislature could pass a mandatory kill-switch bill as early as next week.
CNN: 18-month-old boy mauled by family dogs
ReplyDeleteAn 18-month-old boy was attacked and killed by two family dogs in central florida. The little kid was playing on the porch when the dogs attacked him for “unknown reasons.” The child was with his grandfather when this tragic event happened and when deputies arrived to the scene the child was already dead. The mother in this situation had it the worst, losing her child to some ferocious dogs. Authorities are investigating the scene and have talked to the mother on various occasions. There was also two dogs in the house that were not involved in the killing of the child. They are waiting to figure if the dogs should be euthanized for their actions.
How many different story but I feel that there can be A case made for both sides of the story. Yes it is tragic what has happened to the child and they should be repercussions to the, But at the same time there may have been something that triggered the dog.
DeleteA man was killed in New york the other day, choked out by a white police officer, things like this happen everyday, what makes this different; the fact is the big boast about this cause is that the officer was white and the man was black. They have turn this death into a race dilemma. The man was selling illegal cigarettes, and would not do what the police said and would not put his hands behind his bad. He was resisting arrest. On the flip side, a chokehold is not a permitted use of force allowed by the NYPD. In the video evidence of the incident show the man who died: selling illegal cigarettes to under cover cops, then when confronted and being told he was going to be arrested he resisted arrest, yes the forced used shouldn’t have been used, but he should have done what was asked of him. But as the video shows, he was choked to death, he said to his “choker” eleven times that he couldn’t breathe till he became unconscious.
