Ray Rice terminated by team, suspended by NFL after new violent video
ReplyDeleteRunning back Ray Rice was released by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Monday, the same day a shocking video surfaced showing the NFL star knocking out his future wife with a punch in February. The news release from the Ravens was terse.
"The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of RB Ray Rice this afternoon," it read.
Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday night that the team had not seen the video before it was released online by TMZ. Fox hosts joke about Rice elevator video
"It was something we saw for the first time today, all of us. It changed things, of course. It made things a little bit different," he said. Harbaugh said he and Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome called Rice to inform him of the decision. He declined to discuss what Rice said or how he reacted. Although he was a great player, it was good to see the league taking a stand and suspending him for his horrible decision to hit his wife. Women abuse has been a problem since the very beginning and is something that needs to be stopped.
I think it was right for Rice to get suspended because woman shouldn’t get abused. The team took a stand and made the courageous decision to do this. The decision might affect their game, but if they didn’t suspend him, it could’ve affected what people thought of them altogether. Famous people now of days think they can do whatever they want. By terminating Ray Rice’s contract, people now know nothing is for free and abuse is wrong no matter who you are.
DeleteI agree with your opinion on the fact that Ray Rice was suspended for the abusing of his wife. No matter how well of a football player he is, or was, there should be no domestic violence ever. Even if Rice did not agree with the fact that he was suspended, he should not have layer a finger on his wife in a violent way at all.
DeleteI think it's good that Rice got suspended because abuse is never right. It doesn't matter how good of a football player he is, he should be punished for his actions as anyone else would.
DeleteI agree with you Ray Rice deserved to be suspended for abusing his wife. Woman abuse is wrong and definitely needs to be stopped. I also think that Ray Rice sets an example which shows that you will not get away with doing something wrong. This will show that for very action you make, there is a consequence.
DeleteAs the fifth female commenting on this article, of course I agree with this decision. Ray Rice is a famous figure which makes the decision obvious, its fantastic that the issue was dealt with within hours, regardless of the talent he brought to the team. I admire the coach for having integrity and refusing to condone this act of domestic violence. However, I feel that this issue isn't over, and therapy should be given for the victim of this act of domestic violence. Ray Rice needs to be put on a restraining order to ensure this does not replicate.
DeleteI thinks it is good that Ray Rice was suspend. Abuse should not happen, and it is wrong that we would abuse her. I also think that it show people in the future and past that abuse get you no where in life. So why do it?
Deletehttp://www.foxnews.com/science/2014/10/06/nasa-eyes-crew-deep-sleep-option-for-mars-mission/?intcmp=latestnews
ReplyDeleteThe National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) has made tremendous efforts to put people on Mars. As seen in the movie Aliens, the Colonial Marine Corps slept in cryo-stasis chambers where their bodies were cooled and kept in homeostatic stasis. NASA is attempting to recreate this in order to transport people to and from Mars in a psychologically and physically healthy manner. People would be fed through an intravenous tube and will be kept sleeping for a period of time. So far, people have been placed in cryo-stasis for up to a week however, that time needs to increase to 90-180 days since that is the mission travel duration.
You can view an example picture of the cryo-stasis NASA uses by copy/pasting the link above.
DeleteYou can view an example picture of the cryo-stasis in Aliens by copying/pasting: http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/13256/13427739_2.jpg?v=8CF3C5C8C8B5A90
I think it is kind of amazing that NASA is trying to transport people to Mars by putting people in cryo-stasis like in the movie Alien. I also think that we should make sure that Mars is safe for humans and that the cryo-stasis works well. Since they are testing putting people in this, hopefully they will get some good results, otherwise we would have to halt the mission. And I agree when you say that they need to increase the travel duration of the simulation because of the time it will take to get to actually get to Mars. We need our people to be healthy and safe when transporting if we are really going to attempt this.
DeleteThis is such a cool idea and it is so amazing that we have the ability to make this happen. I think it is a great idea to have people be transported in this way because they will arrive on mars healthier and safer. Although the travel duration in the cryo-stasis chambers is 90-180, the people that only made it a week have a lot of training to do. It is a complicated process and idea, but I think it can be done.
DeleteI think that it is very impressive that we can put people in space and keep them alive. If we can go all way to mars and survive i don't see why we can't slowly be able to go farther and farther in space and eventually find new life possibly. The only way to do that though is to continue the space program.
DeleteI think this is a great plan and its crazy how we can put people in space and be able them alive out there. Having people go into space would really help us learn about whats out there and not just have it be what scientists believe is in space, we would know for sure. So i think we should keep the space program.
DeleteI feel as though this is something from a sic-fi futuristic movie! What an awesome advancement in Aeronautical Space Science, I am impressed with NASA an dope to see further advancements in the field. However, I would love to see the trials involved in this expedition, I'd also hope no humans were used in trials. It would be intriguing to see further research on this this Aeronautical adventure.
DeleteWelcome to the future! For once, happy news. It's hard to find this stuff. It's absolutely incredible to even think about cryosleep to exist even for just a week at this point in time. NASA is doing some pretty nifty things today, and I am really liking it.
DeleteI think this is pretty cool. We can learn more about the planet around us, and eventually the others too. With that we can see if other planets have water, then we can truly see if there are other life forms.
DeleteI feel this is a great advancement for NASA and the future of firther space travel and I feel it’ll help the physical and psychological problems that comes with space travel. This will become a norm in the future in the way that space travel is done.
DeleteJournalist with Ebola arrives at Nebraska hospital
ReplyDelete"The Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response will be overseen by Dr. Brett Giroir, the CEO of Texas A&M Health Science Center. It will develop rapid-response plans if an outbreak is confirmed in the state." The outbreak of ebola has reached America and doctors are rushing to find out what is happening and how it is arriving in America. Cases of Ebola have reached Texas, Florida, and Nebraska. "Sacra received an experimental drug called TKM-Ebola, as well as two blood transfusions from another American aid worker who recovered from Ebola at an Atlanta hospital. The transfusions are believed to help a patient fight off the virus because the survivor's blood carries antibodies for the disease." Doctors are trying to find a way to treat these ebola patients but, there is still no vaccine for the ebola. "The virus that causes Ebola is not airborne and can only be spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids — blood, sweat, vomit, feces, urine, saliva or semen — of an infected person who is showing symptoms." Doctors are suggesting to stay away from bathrooms from others and avoiding contact of sweat and still today are trying to find vaccines.
Out of the seven people who had been treated in the U.S., three have, indeed, survived. Only one has died. I'm pretty sure there has been a misunderstanding on where Ebola has actually reached in the Unites States. Only one person has been contracted with it, and they are in stable condition and is being treated. It is comforting to know they are getting closer to vaccines through antibodies and experimental drugs, such as the TKM-Ebola.

ReplyDeleteElon Musk inventor of PayPal, and the co-founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, believes that colonizing Mars will save humanity. Musk says that he's fighting to colonize Mars not for aspirational purposes or advances in R&D that could be used here on earth, but because he feels he must do all he can to keep the flame of humanity alive. "I think we have a duty to maintain the light of consciousness, to make sure it continues into the future," he says, adding that he thinks the reason we haven't found other intelligent species might be because there "are a whole lot of dead, one-planet civilizations" strewn across the universe.
ReplyDeleteMusk is doing what he can avoid the same fate, and he sees Mars as the stepping stone to expanding humanity beyond earth. In his vision, 100,000 flights over the next century will allow us to build a sustainable colony of a million people on Mars. It's definitely the stuff of science fiction, but Elon believes that he can turn his dreams into reality

CNN- Sanitizing crew turned away at Ebola patient’s residence in Dallas
ReplyDeleteThis CNN episode, posted October 3rd, 2014, is about how Ebola has found it’s way into Dallas, Texas. Thomas Eric Duncan is the first man who contracted Ebola in the United States. His apartment is supposed to be sanitized along with his partner and her family. After his visit from Liberia, he made his way back to US soil and presently is isolated and in serious condition. This concerns me and other Americans because I don’t want this disease to spread any further. Brad Smith of Cleaning Guys was set to clean the apartment but was set back because they don’t have proper permits. I don’t think this issue should be pushed back any further; we need to sanitize the apartment so no other people contract the virus. What worries me mostly, though, is that dozens of people could have had contact with him. What if a random acquaintance turns into the other person getting the virus? Also, Liberia wants to prosecute Duncan. During a questionnaire, he “lied” being exposed to the virus and made his way back to the United States anyways. Duncan hasn’t mentioned being exposed to Ebola, but I believe he should be persecuted if he did because he has put many lives on the line and frightened many Americans. Hopefully Ebola won’t further spread in the US, but recently it has spread around Texas, which should be taken care of immediately.
It is kinda a scary thought that Ebola has already reached the United States knowing how deadly and contagious it is. I totally agree with you about not wanting the disease to spread further. His apartment should be sanitized immediately so Ebola can't be spread to other people. This is a serious issue and it should be handled properly. It should definitely not be set back any longer. Many people can die from this disease if it spreads any more.
DeleteThe fact that Ebola is in America should not frighten anyone! It is a very bad virus and it does spread quickly, however, the stories of ebola in Africa seem so terrible because they don't have the vaccines and medical care that America has. The sick person can be isolated and treated back to health, there should be no stressing out of other american citizens when we are all safe and under the care of our American doctors.
DeleteI feel like even though we have the vaccines and medical care, we should not down play the threat of Ebola. This virus can be very deadly and we should all take precaution. This disease has the potential to mutate into something worse, so we should be careful.
DeleteThe thought of Ebola in america is scary but we shouldn't be too frightened. Yes other countries have had bad cases but we have a much better medicare then a place like Africa. But we can't take this as a joke because there still is no cure for it.
DeleteThis article is to show that citizens of the United States of America are being given a false security blanket. The articles about the Americans being transported to the CDC from Africa stated that the chances of Ebola spreading to the United States was HIGHLY unlikely yet we are still having to face the threats of this virus. Duncan is indeed liable for his health. No one is to say that Duncan was sick this day and he felt this way, but Duncan and only a doctor is to confirm that he was sick, therefore all this commotion about Duncan lying can not be proven.
DeleteEbola in the United States is a scary thought, but I don't think their should be a lot of worry. We have advances in medicine and science, that could help treat the disease. But, we shouldn't take this lightly because it is deadly.

Matanzas loses homecoming game to Creekside
Date: October 4, 2014
by: Jeff Dawsey | Sports Writer
Running back Daniel Dillard walks off the field after a fumble late in the fourth quarter.Running back Daniel Dillard walks off the field after a fumble late in the fourth quarter.2014 homecoming king and queen Jarlene Peralta and Colin Young
After a two-hour rain delay, the Matanzas Pirates (1-3) took the muddy field against the Creekside Knights on Friday, Oct. 3, at Matanzas High School. The Pirates were not able to hold on to their 6-0 lead through the fourth quarter and ended up losing 7-6.
Matanzas drove the ball down the field on their first possession, and quarterback and kicker, Ian Hubbs, finished the drive with a 39-yard field goal. Just before halftime Hubbs nailed another field goal, 37 yards ,to put the Pirates up 6-0.
The Pirates’ defense had their way with the Knights throughout the entire game, one drive. They forced three fumbles, recovered them all, and the Knights rarely posed a threat in the Pirates’ territory.
When the Pirates forced the Knights to punt near the six-minute mark of the fourth quarter, running back Daniel Dillard lost a fumble in Matanzas’ territory. The Knights made the Pirates pay for the mistake by scoring the only touchdown of the night and kicking the extra point to take the outright lead.
Matanzas could not convert a fourth down with 50 seconds left in the game, and they lost their homecoming game 7-6.
“We did a lot smart things,” coach Robert Ripley said. “We held the ball. The time of possession was so far in our favor. It’s unfortunate. The frustrating part about this lost is not finishing.”
According to Ripley, Dillard ran the ball over 30 times and collected over 100 yards.
“After he fumbled, I told him that he would get another shot,” he said. “I told him that he got us this far, and he was going to take us forward.”
Hubbs wasn’t able to find his rhythm throwing the ball, but he made two big field goals that seemed as though they were going to be enough.
“You never know when it’s enough until it’s over,” Hubbs said. “Anybody can win at any time. But, we’ll come back next week and work hard. It’s a loss. It’s not fun, but it’s not the end of the world.”
The Pirates’ next game will be against Pine Ridge on Friday, Oct. 10, in Deltona.
The 2014 homecoming court for Matanzas was JarlenePeralta and Colin Young.
As a matanzas cheerleader, and student, the loss of our Homecoming game was very upsetting to me. Our new football coach, Ripley, seemed to give off the impression that our boys would dominate this year. Even though there has been a major change in the boys determination and heart to the game, there has not been many wins. Yes, there has been much improvement and our boys are great players as individuals. Although, it seems as if our boys aren't a team, they don't play well as a team. Football is a sport where you can't use the "it was just a bad day" excuse. There can't be "bad days." I love our boys, I am a cheerleader for them so i support them through all of their ups and downs. I believe in them no matter how many times they lose, but it gets boring to cheer at games and not win.
As a member of the band I feel your dismay. Since our stand tunes usually revolve around the football team, we weren't happy to see few wins last year and this year. We didn't get to play the fight song that much since we mostly play it when we get touchdowns. Despite that though, I believe the team has come a long way and they have improved greatly. I know I'll still be rooting for them for the next two years i'm at Matanzas.
DeleteIt's disappointing and can get boring for us who cheer on our school football team, aka the cheerleaders, band, football managers, parents, etc., but I've noticed something with our school's players. Since the beginning of the season, I've seen and heard many of them say "Pirate Nation hasn't seen what we can really put on the field. No one's seen the real us and what we put into practice." While that might be true and theres room for improvement, there hasn't been much improvement. We've seen them play at games and thats all they get- their game time is what they have to show us and the opposing team what Matanzas is made of. I think it's because some of our players haven't left room for improvement. Mentality is key- if you have a mentality that you've surpassed your potential and things just aren't going right, things will never go right because you are not even trying to improve. I know the team wants to win and wants the best, and I am aware of how hard they work because I was part of the football booster last year, but how hard they practice the same things with the same mentality isn't as effective as practicing to improve with a mentality of getting better.
DeleteAs the Ray Rice situation of him knocking out his girlfriend blew up Greg Hardy was never talked about and never received attention about him beating his own wife. Is it because he is not as good? Or is it because the public found out about Ray Rice? Domestic abuse is a serious situation and it seemed that the NFL did not spring into action about Ray Rice until the public saw the video. They never said anything about Hardy either until people knew about it because of Ray Rice. The report I read on “The Big Lead” talked about why Greg Hardy was not being talked about neither stopped nor suspended by the league like Ray Rice was once the video of him committing domestic abuse was released. Once the video was released Ray was suspended but even after being convicted by a judge of domestic abuse, Hardy was still not suspended. Since the league was not suspending him, his team sprung into action and suspended Hardy. If the Carolina Panthers would have not done the correct thing and supend him Ray Rice would probably be able to get out of his suspension which would have been bad and embarrassing for the NFL.
ReplyDeleteArmour: Hope Solo a Distraction U.S. Soccer doesn't need
ReplyDeleteRecently, Hope Solo was charged with domestic abuse because she got in a fight with one of her family members. Domestic abuse is a hot topic nowadays because of all the football players being charged. There has been a lot of controversy about how the sports teams managers are handling these situations. The team managers do not realize what their responsibilities and roles are. This is a problem because it is sending a message saying that domestic abuse is okay because nobody is doing anything about it. This is why most people do not take domestic abuse seriously. Many of these athletes are on paid leave and they are not taking responsibility for their actions. Athletes are very influential people, especially to children. This is why they need to be role models. Hope Solo is expected to play in the next world cup and she just beat a record for the most shutouts in U.S. Soccer. Some of Hope Solo's teammates stand by her actions, while others disagree with U.S. Soccer's decision about the issue. Hope Solo is the number one keeper in the world, so it is obvious why U.S. Soccer does not what to make any comments on the issue or make a stand against domestic abuse. The U.S. Women's Soccer team empowers women to feel strong and accomplished. Domestic abuse is going against it.
The United States air strikes in northern Syria have failed to interrupt the ISIS, ISIL, or otherwise known as the Islamic States fighters closing in on the Turkish border. These incidents are now raising questions about the strategy for defeating the movement. Almost two weeks after the Pentagon extended, its campaign from Iraq to Syria in an attempt to take on ISIS militants, there fighters said the bombing campaign was having little impact in driving them back. The jihadis, who this weekend expressed more outrage with the murder of the British hostage Alan Henning, are simply "too numerous" to be effected by the air assault by United States fighter jets, they say. They have also claimed that ISIS has adapted to our tactics to military strikes from the air. The Pentagon has reported daily on its missions over Iraq and Syria since first deciding to go after ISIS two months ago. However, they do not show there exact locations. But the fact is that the bombardment is not strong enough to turn the tide on the ground, and will unsettle those in the US-led coalition, including the UK government, who have signed up to an air war as the best way of taking the fight to Isis.
ReplyDeleteAn Indiana Doctor kills his wife and himself on their wedding night. Kelly Ecker and George "Scott" Sampson got into an argument over prenuptial agreements at their wedding reception. The argument's tension increased when they took the party back to their mansion. The guests literally started to leave due to the heat of their argument. After the last guest left, Kelly Ecker called the police asking for help, claiming that he was beating her. After she called the dispatcher back to give her address, She screamed "Oh my God!" just before a string a gunshots were triggered. Afterwards, George Sampson went into the basement and ended his own life with a gunshot to the head. Kelly Ecker's 10 year old son, and an elderly couple were in the mansion at the time of the murder. I feel like prenups cause a lot of trouble in relationships because people feel like it is a sign of distrust. Even though I have no problem with prenup, many people do. I think prenups are important because I don't think its right that a person can take all of the possessions within a marriage, especially when there is a lot of money and property involved. Many people react irrationally to prenups because they don't feel trusted, but at the same time, there are gold diggers who just want to take advantage of their spouse, which is why I feel that prenups are important.
ReplyDeleteThis is absurd. From the way that you are summarizing this article it is clear to me that the Indiana doctor is indeed very stubborn. Through the act of ending his wife's life and then his own it shows that he thrives off of this "if I can't have it then no one can" type of living. As a doctor he must be very successful in his line of work and losing a portion of his hard-earned money to a possible divorce would not have rolled over as easily as the couple thought it would. I’m sure if the wife would've known the actions her husband was willing to take over a piece of paper she would've married another man instead.
DeleteI agree prenups are important. People should not be able to to take all of the possessions within marriage. I also agree with you on how there are many people who are in it for the money. Its very sad that Kelly Ecker lost her life on that day. It goes to show you that you really do need to be careful about who you marry and really know their actions.
DeleteCNN: Missing Vietnamese oil tanker found raided by pirates
ReplyDeleteAlmost a week after vanishing on route from Singapore to Vietnam, a Vietnamese oil tanker has been released by pirates who had taken control of the vessel. The director of Vietnam’s Maritime Department told CNN, that the ship had been taken over by 8 pirates who seized the ship with part of the cargo, 2000 metric tons of oil out of 7200 metric tons. The ship called, Sunrise 689, had returned to Vietnam with its 18 crew members. The pirates that robbed the ship had an unknown nationality and could not be described. Southeast Asia has become a prime target for pirates who have staged a number of “serious attacks” on tankers in the region. There have been at least 6 known hijackings since April, when small tankers were targeted for their oil and diesel gas. Until this year, most attacks had been petty thefts perpetrated on boats anchored at harbor. Sunrise 689 dropped off the radar in the middle of a busy shipping zone in the Singapore Strait. Vessels in the Singapore Strait are on high alert for piracy and taking measures to try and stop the pirates. The attacks are mainly planned at nighttime so that the robbers are stealth.
Gay Marriage
ReplyDeleteLeading opponents of the same sex argument vowed on Wednesday to push ahead with their legal fight. Several appeal courts have still not ruled this issue the supreme courts could leave this up to the states. Jim Campbell the defendant of marriage restrictions said, “the marriage battle will continue. Gay rights advocates predicted that it would be lifted within days. This fight has been going on for years people who believe that gay marriages should be legalized and other you believe the opposite. I believe that if a State has not already legalized gay marriages it will be hard to make them flip because chances are that this argument has been brought many times by different people and defenders have seen it so many times they know what to expect and how to go about making sure the state remains. “Mr. Brown also rejected the argument that, once same-sex marriages had been allowed in many states, the law could not be rolled back if the voters wanted to do so”. Mr Brown is offering a good argument to make sure the jury knows what they are fighting for or voting against. Religious leader who says they are not going to respond with hatred but with cultural persuasion. Who will win in this fight for gay marriage it seems very up in the air right now.
What I don't understand is why people are making this a big deal. It's just two people getting married it doesn't affect anyone. As long as they both have consent to the marriage it should be fine. If anything, gay marriage is good because after the people get married they'll be happier. So, legalizing gay marriage will only make things better.
DeletePeople are still arguing over this topic? I honestly think they're wasting their time because there are other more important things to worry about such as the Ebola outbreak or ISIS. If two people of the same gender want to be together, why can't we just leave them alone? They're not hurting anyone or causing any disturbance to anything. I honestly don't understand people's logic these days.
DeleteGay marriage will always be an issue in the United States. It is not accepted by religious leader and so far by what is presented on the news it isn't accepted in society either. If gay marriage was legalized what difference would it make? Either way there will be gay relationships and people will speak out so why not end the fight an make it legal. It might never be accepted in the Christian religion since the bible condemns homosexuality but I think it's worth the fight.
DeleteSpain Quarantines 3 More in Bid to Contain Ebola
ReplyDeleteSpanish health authroitizes announced early this morning (Thursday, October 9th) that a nurse infected with Ebola, has worsened. Three days ago she became the first person in Europe to test positive with Ebola, and was immediately told " there was not much hope for her." I feel like this is wrong on a multitude of levels. Yes, you should disclose to your patients that Ebola is deadly, but it could of been worded in a more sincere way, then basically breaking to her she is going to died. Sadly, her brother does not get to see his sister, due to the fact they immediately quarintined her, and now her brother is speaking out to other people on local news stations, trying to convince people to stay "healthy." This whole Ebola situation has people all over the world freaking out, because it started in one please and now it's in the US and the first case has just been tested positive in Europe.
In West Africa there is no relief from Ebola. It has killed more than 3,800 people and is now also affecting medical workers. This outbreak could cost Africa more than $32 billion over the next two years. The ebola outbreak has been so detrimental to Africa, that the Liberian president postponed a senatorial election. Already there are 334 troops from the US in Africa with 700 more troops planning on coming. In the US though, Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola, died on Wednesday. When a Dallas deputy; hospitalized with possible symptoms, was checked for Ebola, the tests came back negative. A woman in Australia is now also being monitored for Ebola. I didn’t realize Ebola was in so many countries before I read this, I thought it was only in the US and Africa. It’s a little scarier now that I read this article. They should be able to contain Ebola, but it still is a little scary. I remember last week how the number of deaths in Africa was only about 1,000 and now it’s almost 4,000. We should be fine in America, but I’m a little worried for Africa.
ReplyDeleteHow to Raise Money Without Killing a Kitten: A Freakonomics Radio Rebroadcast
ReplyDeleteWow what a name for a podcast is the first thing I thought when I read it but if you listen to it you won’t get why the podcast has that name. Well since you probably don’t have the time to listen, I will tell you the theme of “How to Raise Money Without Killing a Kitten.” The Freakonomics podcast are a public service and they require public donations to keep the quality of the podcasts and to ultimately keep them running. So through out the recording Stephen J. Dubner, one of the writers of the Freakonomics books, is interviewing economist John List, who has been studying for the past 16 years why fundraising works, and economist Uri Gneezy, who studies the moral, social, and economic side of charitable giving. The goal of Stephen’s interviews is to gather ideas of how to fund raise money for the podcast and not look desperate or unorganized in trying to implement these ideas. Steven and John talked about when these listeners would be most willing to donate, how a form of lottery would help, and giving out rewards for donating will increase donations. Stephen and Uri talked about the two types of altruism pure and warm glow or impure altruism.

ReplyDeleteThis week Elon Musk "unveils the D", Tesla's new all electric sports car. This new version of Tesla, called the P85D, boasts two engines and all wheel drive. It promises faster acceleration, better performance in inclement weather, and lots of speed. The P85D has been said to go from 0-60 in only 3.2 seconds; that's right up the alley of most gasoline supercars today! To make it even more impressive, the P85D will start at only $120,170, a rather small price compared to other supercars with the same 0-60 time such as the Porsche 911 Turbo ($151,100), the Ferrari 458 Italia ($233,500), and the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 ($237,250). The P85D also has an "autopilot" mode, giving the car lane control, active emergency braking, and self parking capabilities. The P85D will start shipping in December.
Being a car fanatic myself, I think it's amazing how far we've come with the auto industry and just technology it general. Manufacturers are coming out with fantastic looking cars that also have good specs. The fact that it's electric makes it that much more noteworthy. I wouldn't mind having one myself.
Newsela- School Spankings may soon be against the law in Missouri
ReplyDeleteJennifer Kavanaugh has been teaching for over 13 years and never dreamed of hitting a child. She is currently a fifth grade teacher and teaches at St. Margaret of Scotland school. She used to teach at as school where corporal punishment was allowed. In other words students who misbehaved were spanked. She never used it but she knows other teachers who do use it and she wanted to put a stop to it. She says that " Corporal Punishment does not bring peace or happiness for a child". She and about 30 other fifth-grade teachers attended a meeting to discuses the issue. They shared their thoughts and feelings to Senator Joe Keanvay and, he totally agreed with them. They are still working out the issue and sharing their thoughts. In my opinion I feel that Schools using Corporal punishment on children is wrong. Teachers should not be using corporal punishment.
Hitting a child is not the right way of dealing with a situation if they misbehave. In many cultures, parents have historically been regarded as having the duty of disciplining their children, and the right to spank them when appropriate. In my opinion it shouldn't be aloud in schools and neither should it be a way of discipling your children. This issue has been brought up in the past also; a 1996 study by Straus suggested that children who receive corporal punishment are more likely to be angry as adults.
DeleteTexas Nurse Who Had Worn Protective Gear Tests Positive For Ebola
ReplyDeleteA Dallas nurse is the first person in the U.S. to be contracted with Ebola. She was involved with Eric Duncan's care, including "extensive contact" with the Dallas patient. It is the first transmission of the disease, and the second diagnosis to happen in the U.S. "At some point, there was a breach in protocol, and that breach in protocol resulted in this infection," said Dr. Tom Frieden. "The Ebola treatment protocols work. ... But we know that even a single lapse or breach can result in infection." It was also said by the CDC director, that there was a breach in protocol at some point and that's how the nurse had been contracted. The CDC stated that a contraction in the United States was possible and they have been prepared for one. Although, they believe their "system" is working judging by how quick they got their results for the nurse. In my opinion, it's pretty unsettling to know someone in the U.S. had actually caught from someone else in the U.S. But as long as we are careful in public areas, I think casualties will be left to the minimum. And it seems the CDC is getting closer to finding some way to help this worldwide situation through the use of survivors' antibodies and experimental drug tests.
The idea of the United States becoming infected with this virus is extremely intimidating. Although there's a very small chance of catching this virus, and having it expand throughout the US is so crazy to me because it means that as agnation, we'll have to resort to abandoning the ill, and isolating them, and I know I couldn't do that. Difficult decisions come along with this disease, and I feel like death is the least of our worries.
DeleteA couple has been charged with animal cruelty after the authorities had to impound more than 50 animals from their property. Lynne Hackney and Miles Allen have been arrested for only two counts each of animal cruelty after they were found with more than 50 dogs on their property living in awful conditions. It was reported that that the dogs were living in kennels with some three to a cage, and they were all standing/ lying in their own feces. The dogs had no water or food within their reach and their fur was so mated that they could not walk. And, many of the dogs had their paws burned from the ammonia in their urine. The dogs were taken to the Pearl River County SPCA. Lynne was running a dog breeding business and his website contradicts how he was running his business. Lauren Fitts says that the animals will have to look for temporary homes, because of the hearing and some of the previous breeder may want their dogs back. Animal rights advocates are once again asking Mississippi to look at their animal cruelty laws to impose harsher penalties on the people who abuse and neglect their animals.
ReplyDeleteLately there has been new terrorist threat throughout the world. They’re located throughout parts of Syria and Iraq, without any pressure being pushed upon them by world leaders they have been advancing on new territories. Their names, Isis, this terrorist organization has been making threats and has been attempting terrorist acts four months now. Was this being said Government leaders around the world are now coming together and have formed a coalition to fight Isis, is being call one of the biggest coalitions ever put together. Pres. Obama has been saying that we are putting pressure of Isis and that we are taking care of the issue, although Isis has been advancing to the Turkish border with ease. Many of their militants and tanks have been traveling through best wide-open plains, where they could be easily and fatally struck. So how is Isis is really being maintained, US officials are saying that they are really worried about the one town there will more worried about Isis as a whole and keeping that whole region safe. With this being said people are very skeptical on how Obama and the United States officials really are trying on decreasing the power that Isis has.
ReplyDeleteNBC News Reports- Alabama Pastor Juan McFarland Sued After Confessing to Adultery with AIDS
ReplyDeleteThis pastor has committed adultery with members of the congregation while diagnosed with AIDS. AIDS are spread through sex and is therefore considered an STD. Therefore, the church was alarmed at this, and the church board voted 80-1 that the pastor should step down due to the "disobedience of the ten commandments" the seventh commandment says "thou shalt commit adultery," which is against the teachings of the bible which should be taught by the pastor. The issue here is theocracy, if teachings in the church aren't followed by the teacher(or pastor) then the congregation will be unlikely to follow the sermon. Also, the church is "The House of God" which holds a higher standard than the average person, the pastor of a church is believed to be held to a higher standard in order to hold the holy religion and exemplify the church well. The pastor of this church refused to step down and was sued by a deacon. The lawsuit is currently waiting on a court ruling.
I feel that forgiveness as a person should take place, due to the repentance and realization of the error in judgement. However, I feel I would shave sided with the other 80 members of the church board, as he is no longer fit to hold the holy position. The argument that the church should shun the ex-pastor, I feel, eliminates the basic principles taught by the church, to help those in need and not be judgement. I hope this church reacts with grace and forgiveness.
A nurse is to be transferred to NIH for an ebola treatment.
ReplyDeleteIn this article it states that the symptoms of ebola are seemed to be the same symptoms of aids. The nurse got infected with ebola after treating a patient with a disease at a Dallas hospital. She is going to be transferred to a higher institute. She will be given the state of the art care in high-level containment facility. Ebola kills your immune system shutting it down. Slowly dying. the ebola quarantine was loaded and attacked where patients have escaped. Putting our population into fear of this virus. The last stage of ebola would be your liver, clotting up the liver and tissue factor giving it no room to pump blood through it anymore clogging your liver. All your bodies defenses fail and get attacked by this virus
In 1924 Carney Landis drew lines on people faces and subjected them to actual trauma. The participants were told to cut the head off of a rat and while he snapped pictures of their faces. His experiment proved that humans are curious. We are attracted to the “what if” in life. If you were to drive down the highway and cars slow down we usually stop and stare. We are drawn to the excitement, drama, war, disfigured things, and the odd. Humans like disturbing this because they like to scream. Watching other people suffer in macabre ways shows us that we either should do it or turn our heads the other way. The brain releases chemicals that make us curious and we seek satisfaction. When a mother tells her child to stop staring at someone it will make them want to look longer this. This is the Streisand Effect, when you try to suppress something unintentionally, making it more widely distributed. Watching horror films is also an example of this. We know that we are going to be terrified but we do not look away from the screen. A quote by Stephen Kind was mentioned when explaining this effect. Stephen Kings said: “ we make up horrors to help us cope with real ones.” Enduring the horror makes feel stronger as humans.
ReplyDeleteRoyals win ALDS!
ReplyDeleteComing into the postseason as a team with no power but with a lot of speed everyone knew they were either going to run the show or go out without a win. ESPN, in their article talked about how speed can’t give you runs but at the same time speed doesn’t go into slumps. Coming into the playoffs the Royals were not heavily favored because they game in as a wild card which means they were the in the bottom 4 of the teams in the playoffs, but now they are in the mix of the final four teams! Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, and “Big Game James” or his real name, James Shields, gave the Royals huge performances. Spending money in baseball on players can be a big help but in this case where the Royals have one of the lowest payrolls came in and beat up one of the highest payrolls in the Los Angeles Angels.
To this point so far the Royals have won 3 extra innings games wich is incredible and nearly impossible. It has only been done 5 other times in history and every one of those 5 teams went on the win the World Series… We will see if the Royals can keep up that pattern.
A Florida judge sentenced Michael Dunn on October 17th to life in prison without parole for the 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis. The sentence, imposed nearly two years after Dunn shot and killed Davis during an argument over loud music, also carries an additional 90 years for three convictions of attempted murder and firing a weapon into a vehicle. Dunn, 47, who is white, was convicted of first-degree murder this month for shooting into an SUV full of African-American teenagers at a Jacksonville, Florida gas station after an argument over loud music from the teens' vehicle. Dunn has said he shot at the vehicle because he thought Davis had a weapon and feared for his life, but the prosecution said Dunn was the aggressor and pointed out that he kept firing even after the teens fled.
ReplyDeleteThree of the 10 shots that Dunn fired struck Davis, one of them cutting through his liver, a lung and his aorta. Investigators say Davis never had a weapon, nor was one found in the teens' SUV or in the area. After shooting Davis, prosecutors said, Dunn did not call police. He returned to his hotel, ordered pizza, walked his dog and went to sleep. Once again this seems to be another case tied to racism.
Newsela - High schools try to stop serious sports injuries like heat stroke, concussions:
ReplyDeleteOver the past week, three football players have died and high schools are starting to add rules and regulations when it comes to training athletes to keep them safe. Heat strokes has become major issue, researcher say that the heat index isn't the only thing you can measure when it comes to the risk of heat strokes. You must also include temperature, humidity and radiant temperature, and anything above 82, players should have frequent brakes, and anything above 92, outdoor practices should be canceled all together. Things such as heat stroke and concussions aren't the only dangers young athletes have, overuse injuries have caught the eyes of school officials. Such as baseball pitchers with elbow and shoulder injuries, schools are starting to limit how many pitches they can throw so they have more time to recover. According to sports reporter Mark Hyman, "parents and coaches have been the ones to push them beyond physical limits.” and since adults have gotten involved with sports, students have been pushed to continue in games even with injuries. It's good to see high schools are starting to take the health and well being of our athletes more seriously. Because we're in Florida, I think its a good idea to be keeping tabs on the temperature athletes are practicing in and to keep the risks of heat stoke low.

Everyone has been in panic over the ebola outbreak. Dr. Phil says, in an interview, that knowledge will help us get through this and that we should not panic over something we barely know about.
ReplyDeleteAlso apparently people have been worried that Ebola is airborne or will become airborne. Scientists have proven in tests that there is no way ebola will become airborne. There is a very small chance it will. You can only get ebola if you have touched an ebola patience's bodily fluids. Also, scientists are working on a cure.
Its crazy how the media assumes the worst thing and automatically says that Ebola is air born. When in reality, its not. What’s even more crazy is that people will believe what is told to them through media and wont do any research to make sure that its facts and not just opinions. Ebola is not airborne and it has never been airborne.
DeleteAs to the cure scientist have not yet found one, which is terrible, but Americans should not be worried about they’re being a huge outbreak, because America has advanced medical care.
